Joey Florence

Social Worker & Psychotherapist (He/Him)

Joey Florence BA, MSW, RSW brings extensive experience in the disability and developmental sector, having designed and led vocational, employment, and community-based programs that support individuals in finding meaningful work, building social connections, exploring new hobbies, and strengthening life skills.

Joey specializes in supporting individuals with autism spectrum disorder, developmental disabilities, and learning exceptionalities, drawing on experience in schools, private practice, community services, and camps. He is trained in Mindfulness Therapy, incorporating practices such as present-moment awareness, mindful breathing, and meditation to help clients observe and accept thoughts and emotions without judgment.

His approach is warm, collaborative, and authentic. Joey prioritizes trust and engagement, believing that meaningful change happens when clients feel safe, heard, and supported. As an ally and advocate, he also recognizes the importance of community and belonging, often weaving opportunities for connection into his work with clients.

Beyond direct practice, Joey has contributed to the wider conversation on disability and inclusion through published articles in ABILITIES magazine and his work with the Canadian Abilities Foundation. His practice is strengths-based, person-centered, and guided by the belief that every individual has the capacity for growth, resilience, and meaningful participation in their community.
