BACKING BETTER MENTAL HEALTH
Counselling & Behaviour is a proud recipient of the 2026 AMEX & DMZ Backing Canadian Small Businesses Award
Creating Change Starts Close to Home
Toronto, ON, June 2026—Counselling & Behaviour is thrilled to have been selected as a recipient of the American Express and DMZ Backing Canadian Small Businesses Award.
This recognition is awarded to Canadian small businesses creating meaningful impact in their communities, and we are honoured to be included among this year's recipients.
For us, this award is about more than recognition. It’s a reflection of the growing need for practical, specialized mental health support for kids, families, educators, and neurodivergent people. This recognition acknowledges the importance of ensuring that support reaches beyond the walls of a therapy office.
"We are incredibly grateful to be recognized by American Express and DMZ. More importantly, we're excited about what this support will allow us to build for the families, schools, and communities we serve."
— Michael R. Goldberg, Founder of C&B
Why We Started
Counselling & Behaviour was built on a simple observation: many individuals and families fall into the gap between traditional mental health services, schools, and developmental supports.
Parents are often left trying to navigate anxiety, emotional dysregulation, school challenges, social difficulties, and behavioural concerns without the guidance they need. Educators are expected to support increasingly complex student needs while balancing the demands of the classroom. Neurodivergent individuals frequently encounter systems that do not fully understand how they experience and move through the world.
We believed there had to be a better way.
Since opening our doors, our goal has been to provide thoughtful, practical, evidence-based support that helps people better understand themselves, strengthen their coping skills, and move toward the lives they want to build.
Beyond Therapy
While psychotherapy remains at the heart of what we do, meaningful change rarely happens in isolation.
Children spend their days in classrooms. Parents support their families at home. Educators, caregivers, and community members often find themselves on the front lines of mental health challenges.
That is why we have always believed that mental health support should extend beyond individual therapy sessions.
Through workshops, training, consultation, community partnerships, and ongoing professional development, we aim to help build stronger support systems around the people we serve.
When the adults in a child's life feel more confident, informed, and equipped, everyone benefits.
What This Recognition Means
The support provided through the American Express and DMZ Backing Canadian Small Businesses program will allow us to continue investing in the growth of our team, expanding our knowledge and expertise, and developing initiatives that strengthen mental health support within our community.
It creates opportunities for us to deepen our impact through education, collaboration, and community-focused programming while continuing to provide high-quality clinical services to the individuals and families we support every day.
Most importantly, it reinforces our belief that mental health matters and that investing in people creates stronger families, stronger schools, and stronger communities.
Thank you!

Looking Ahead
To our clients, families, educators, referral partners, community organizations, and supporters: thank you.
We’re grateful to American Express and DMZ for their support and belief in our vision. Together, we look forward to continuing to strengthen mental health support in the communities we serve.
We’re excited about the future and remain committed to supporting children, adolescents, adults, families, educators, and organizations through practical, specialized mental health care that’s grounded in compassion, evidence, and real-world application.
While we’re honoured by this recognition, we’re even more excited about what it makes possible for us to achieve. There’s important work to do, and we’re just getting started.
